The NFL is coming up on its midway point, and a special article is coming to a blog near you next week. However, for the time being we get my top five takeaways from the last week in the NFL.
The Cowboys are Going to win the NFC East
Now as much as I like the look of the Dallas Cowboys, this is more of an indictment of the NFC East than a celebration of the Cowboys. The Eagles have a secondary that I’m fairly certain Alabama could tear apart, the Giants have a defense that couldn’t stop a sneeze, and the Redskins don’t know who their Quarterback is. The Cowboys will win this division, but don’t be shocked when they’re a four seed again.
This is Cam Newton’s Final Season in Carolina
Alert the media, Kyle Allen is 4-0 this season as the replacement for Cam Newton. He truly isn’t anything spectacular, but he does what he needs to do. Allen manages the game, and gets out of McCaffery’s way. Cam is too good of a player to allow McCaffery to be the MVP caliber player he is, and should find himself out of Carolina before the start of the 2020 NFL Season. Chicago is my preferred spot for Cam as I don’t believe any team in the league is ready to compete that is absolutely desperate for a better Quarterback situation.
Kyler Murray Will be Successful
After a dismal 0-3-1 start, Kyler Murray has gone 3-0 in his last three starts, all with one thing in common. When Murray has 10+ rushing attempts the Cardinals are perfect, leaving them at a 3-3-1 record on the year. When teams have to worry about his running ability, it allows other players like Chase Edmonds to succeed. He’s on pace for a 4,000 yard season and 21 total touchdowns, exceptional for a rookie. He’s currently only a game and a half out of the playoff race, despite the Cardinals being a sub par team altogether.
Frank Reich is an Amazing Coach
Anyone notice anything? The Colts in 2017 (Without Andrew Luck to be fair) went 4-12 while the Philadelphia Eagles won a Super Bowl… without Carson Wentz. Following this, the Colts in 2018 went 10-6 and had a playoff win, while the Eagles went 9-7 and didn’t make it past the divisional. The difference: Frank Reich. We’re seeing it this year, as the Colts without Luck have gone 4-2 and have beat an AFC favorite Chiefs with Jacoby Brissett. The Colts look amazing, fully surprising me as I have picked against them more than once this season. Reich deserves all the credit in the world for the Colts success, and is my favorite for Coach of the Year through seven weeks.
The Falcons Have Given Up
A 1-6 Record for a team many had touted to make the playoffs this year is just simply not good enough. They seem to be tanking this season away, as I don’t see any way they manage to go perfect in the last nine weeks to secure a playoff berth. Trading Mohamed Sanu was the tipping point, they simply just want to throw away this season and move on from it.
