The NFL Sunday slate will have around 10-14 games every week where teams try to show us something. They try to show us their strengths, and unintentionally show us their weakness. Every week I will have five takeaway from the weekends game, and i’ll share them with you.
The Cardinals aren’t as bad as we thought
Now don’t take my words wrong, they’re not a good team, not even a .500 level team. However, they’ve tied the Lions and kept pace with the Ravens up until the very end. Watching their star rookie Kyler Murray throw for over 300 yards and having a chance to win the game in the fourth showed a lot of promise. David Johnson still looks very good, despite that offensive line.
The Cardinals will struggle, but they won’t be a repeat number one overall pick. This team will scratch and fight and have an upset or two this coming season.
The Dolphins are going 0-16
This is a terrible team. I watched a lot of the first week thrashing by Baltimore, before turning it off in favor of the Bills playing the Jets. When I would rather watch the Bills face the Jets, you just aren’t an entertaining team. Nothing about this iteration of Dolphins is fun; unless you start the opposing defense in fantasy. Now, 0-16 might be a stretch but they need to improve heavily to even get a game in the schedule they have.
The Cowboys need to pay Dak Prescott
Jerry Jones must have been jumping for joy in light of Dak’s recent comments about how he didn’t deserve to be the highest paid quarterback. Despite that comment he deserves his money, not more than Wilson, but a bag nonetheless. Dak looks to have figured it out- timing his throws and getting them into accurate windows. Zeke, Jaylon, and Collins have all been paid while Dak stands on the sideline, being the lowest paid starting QB in the NFL. Throwing for 674 yards and 7 TDs in his first two games, he deserves the 30 million+ figure being thrown around.
Dalvin Cook is an elite RB
41 Attempts for 265 Yards and 3 TDs in his first two games. The leader in rushing yards and touchdowns has shown us a lot, and not against weak competition. Playing the Falcons and Packers, he’s continued to average 6.5 yards per carry in this vikings offense. With the limited ability of Kirk Cousins, he can easily become the focal point of this offense, and a universally recognized top five back.
Gardner Minshew is a capable QB
Minshew was a sixth round pick in this past 2019 NFL draft, and wasn’t slated to start due to the coming in of Super Bowl MVP Nick Foles. In Jacksonville’s first game of the season however, Nick Foles went down with a broken clavicle. Coming in for Foles, Minshew threw for 275 and 2 TDs and this week threw for 213 and a touchdown as well. Foles will be out for up to eight weeks and he can enjoy having the competent backup rather than being the backup for a change.
The Steelers are going to struggle
My second wild card pick for the year have started 0-2 and continued their bad run of form from last season. They ended the year going 1-5 in their last six and missing the playoffs despite and impressive beginning to the season. This season they don’t look much better and to pile on to the general poor performance of the team, Ben Roethlisberger might miss some time. Recent reports say Ben will miss the entire season with his elbow injury, so this team might fall below .500 at the end of the season
Edit: The Steelers acquired Minkah Fitzpatrick for a first round pick in the 2020 NFL Draft. I don’t think this does much for their W/L column, but it is a fine addition. My points above stand.
